On December 8, the second lesson of 2023 cross-industry traveling office and high-quality development cadre training organized by the Party Committee of the China Iron and Steel Association was held in China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as Sinopec). He Wenbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Steel Association, and members of the team of the Steel Association, deputy Secretary-General and heads of relevant departments, and some members of the industry green steel standards research group participated in the training. Yu Baocai, member of the Party Leadership Group, Deputy General manager and President of Sinopec, gave a lecture for the special training course. Leaders of Sinopec Development Planning Department, Materials and Equipment Department, Oilfield Division, Natural Gas Branch, Academy of Stone Sciences, Economic Research Institute and other leaders introduced the development status and future development prospects of Sinopec and the oil and gas industry to the members of the training course.

During the training, the leaders of Sinopec focused on the current and future (up to 2060) consumption forecasts and development plans of China's oil and natural gas (including shale gas) and new energy represented by hydrogen energy, so that the members of the training class had a better understanding of China's energy structure and production capacity of major energy categories in each stage of moving towards carbon neutrality. There is a new understanding of storage and transportation capacity and pipeline network construction, which has important significance for the revision and improvement of China's steel carbon neutral stage goals and technical paths.

The steel industry is not only a large-scale user of all kinds of energy, but also a guarantor of all kinds of steel materials required for the production and construction of the petroleum and petrochemical industry. The members of the training course learned more about the future steel demand and the current steel supply security situation from Sinopec, and the two sides agreed to establish a closer information exchange mechanism on a regular basis to further improve the cooperation between the two industries.

Sinopec is the long chain unit of China's hydrogen energy application industry chain, Yu Baocai said that he is very willing to cooperate with the steel industry to develop the hydrogen energy industry, especially to improve the production capacity of green hydrogen such as sustainable energy electrolytic water hydrogen production, and provide support for new metallurgical processes such as hydrogen reduction and raw material preparation. In the training, Yu Baocai specifically mentioned the cooperation plan with Hesteel Group to build a hydrogen energy industry chain, and expressed his full support and cooperation with the construction of Hesteel Group's hydrogen metallurgy industrial park. According to the construction plan of Hegang Hydrogen Metallurgy Industrial Park, full green hydrogen production will be achieved by the end of 2027, and the production capacity of 3 million tons of green steel raw materials will be formed. Sinopec has also officially launched the green hydrogen project with 100,000 tons of hydrogen capacity in Ulanqab based on solar power, and the construction of hundreds of kilometers of hydrogen pipeline. During the exchange, the two sides agreed that there is huge space for cross-industry cooperation in the green and low-carbon transformation of steel and petrochemical industry, and it is necessary to regularly exchange relevant progress, explore in-depth cooperation, and jointly promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

Yu Baocai said that today's exchange has explored a new direction and provided new inspiration for the "one base, two wings and three new" industrial pattern currently being carried out by Sinopec. As a traditional industry, the steel and petrochemical industries are facing the "double carbon" issue, he believes that this exchange is only the beginning of the cooperation between the two sides, and the two sides will also deeply integrate and interact at multiple levels in the future, and the cooperation space will continue to expand.

He Wenbo said that the training was a huge harvest, thanks to the careful preparation of Sinopec multi-department leaders for this training, which is a new attempt to enhance cooperation between the two industries, follow-up cooperation will produce more results, including the development and supply of all kinds of energy steel, vigorously promote tempering coproduction to improve energy efficiency. As well as jointly promoting the development and construction of hydrogen energy industry chain and other fields, it is worth strengthening research and continuous promotion.
